Welcome to The Zhao Bioinformatics Laboratory at Plant Biology Division, The Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation, Inc.

We are a research group within Plant Biology Division, Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation Inc., also a member of Center for Translational Genomics Research at the Noble Foundation.

Our group focuses on research and development in genomic and computational approaches to reveal the underlying mechanism in plants. We are applying statistical pattern recognition, artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies in the study of genome annotation, regulatory mechanism of gene expression, and sequence-structure-function relationship, etc.

Some of our current projects:

  • Building computational models for the study of gene expression regulatory mechanisms in model plants.

  • Development of bioinformatics tools for the analysis of plant small RNAs focusing on microRNAs (miRNA) (miRNAs), trans-acting small interfering RNAs (siRNAs), long endogenous siRNAs and their target genes / chromatins.

  • Prediction and functional categorization of transporter proteins in plants and bacteria species.

  • Integration and mining of heterogeneous data from high-throughput “omics” platforms for functional and comparative genomics.
